During the last decade this subject has made remarkable progress and a huge amount of literature has appeared in different journals the world over and new articles are ' appearing at the rate of about one each day'. This book covers most of the modern knowledge of the subject, being a collection of the essential parts of the above material together with the results of personal observation and research of the author. The book commences with a chapter on the history of the development of this subject. This is a fascinating story of man's perilous attempts at conquest of the air and of the pioneers on whose investigations the subject is used. The other chapters deal with the various aspects of modern aviation medicine, namely, selection and proper care of pilots and the effects of modern aviation with its high speed, peculiar manoeuverability, etc., on the different sense organs and systems of man, the diseases peculiar to airmen?air sickness, aeroembolism, aeroneurosis, etc., have been exhaustively dealt with. The book is excellently written and will serve as a standard textbook in schools of aviation medicine and as a book of reference to flight surgeons.
